Snorkelling

Woody Island SnorkellingWitness firsthand the beauty of the underwater world by snorkelling in Shearwater Bay. Follow the snorkel trail that guides you on a journey of discovery about the ocean's inhabitants and their environments. Mask, snorkel and fins available for hire from the Woody Island kiosk. Bushwalking

Woody Island Summit LookoutPut on your walking shoes to explore the natural surrounds of Woody Island whilst taking in stunning views. There are three marked trails that lead you to either the summit (via the Island Top Walk), Twiggy's Landing or Skinny Dip Bay. With the degree of difficulty varying from easy to moderate, everyone can enjoy this activity. Twiggy's Landing

Twiggys Landing Woody IslandLearn about the story behind the naming of Twiggy's Landing: Don Mackenzie's family dog named "Twiggy" and her survival after being lost at sea. Enjoy a short bushwalk to this historic spot with views extending to the eastern islands of the Recherche Archipelago and the dive wreck - Sanko Harvest.  Further information on both topics can be found under the Fact Sheets section or pick up a copy at the Woody Island information centre.

Jetty Fishing

Woody Island Prime Jetty FishingThe main jetty provides easy access to fishing for the inexperienced and experienced alike. Herring and snoek are popular eating fish or try your luck at catching a squid. No spearfishing permitted.  Normal bag limits apply and catch only what you can eat. 

Fishing rods & reels are available for hire from the Woody Island kiosk and bait can also be purchased here.

Birdwatching

Woody Island BirdwatchingEnjoy the abundant birdlife that inhabits Woody Island. Watch them frolic in the birdbaths or darting throughout the trees. Near the campsite area Golden Whistlers, New Holland Honeyeaters, Silvereyes, Red-eared Firetails and Spotted Pardalotes can regularly be seen. While along the walk trails catch a glimpse of the Brown Quails, Brush Bronzewings, Rock Parrots and Raptors.  For a comprehensive list of birds sighted, go to the Fact Sheets section and check out the 'Woody Island Birdlist' (by Birds Australia (WA)) and 'Native Animals' or pick up a copy from the Woody Island information centre.

Relaxing

Relax Woody IslandIf this is the aim of your island getaway you've come to the right place. Curl up with a good book on your Safari Hut balcony or sneak away to a secluded spot. If lying on the beach is more your scene, head down to Shearwater Bay to soak up the sun and feel the coarse sand between your toes. At the end of the day if you find yourself worn out from all the activities, enjoy an afternoon nap listening to the sound of the birds.
